ServoDisc

ServoDisc motor technology continues to be applied in new and challenging applications due to its unique performance benefits over conventional DC servomotors. The slotless and ironless design creates a motor that exhibits zero cogging during application, making ServoDisc motors perfect for applications where precision at all speed ranges - even single digit rpms - is a must. In addition, the ServoDisc motor employs a flat, thin armature design which rotates in an axial airgap, resulting in a minimal axial form factor. Servodisc motors have been used in many applications where this thin profile is a must due to overall machine package constraints.
The flat, low mass armature allows for incredibly quick acceleration, deceleration and frequent rotation direction changes. The DC design and low voltage requirements allow the motor to be operated with simple, cost effective drive electronics and with something as simple and convenient as battery power.
We are pleased to offer Servodisc motors with many different standard options (feedback devices, gearboxes, mounting options, etc) as well as customized options and modifications for application specific solutions. Our dedicated design resources will evaluate your specific application and design a Servodisc solution that meets your need - perfectly. Combine the already unique performance benefits of the the ServoDisc technology with this ability to modify and customize and you have a solution that will fit your demanding performance requirements and add value to your product. These customized ServoDisc solutions have have been proven time and again in the most demanding applications such as life critical medical, military, semi-conducter wafer handling and delicate material handling.
- Common customization options include application specific mounting and connector interfaces, customer specific gearboxes and feedback devices, sealing and ruggedization, application specific materials and coatings and custom electromagnetic configurations to fit exacting performance requirements.
- Broad torque range - .12 Nm to 33 Nm accomodates a broad range of applications. Torque is available almost instantaneously from start of rotation and the torque curve is flat throughout speed range.
- Long operating life - ironless design signifcantly reduces arcing at the communtator interface, prolonging brush life to 1.2 billion revolutions +
- Absolutely zero cogging, even at very low rpms
- High Acceleration. 0-4000 rpms in under 60 degrees of rotation, a move that can take as little as 10 miliseconds.
- Instantaneous torque - the design of the ServoDisc motor creates a very low electrical time constant, or, a measure of the time it takes for current to flow into the armature. This results in full torque almost instantly which translates into fast moves and accurate tracking.
- Peak torque of up to 10 times continuous. Unlike an ironcore motor in which peak torque is often limited to 2-3 times continuous due to the threat of magnet demagnitization and saturation of the ironcore.
- Small axial size. With the flat, thin armature at its heart, the Servodisc motor is very thing axially making it perfect for applications where equipment clearances or compact portable equipment is top priority. Motors can be less than an inch in axial length!
